Can anyone offer alternative materials to homosote that have similar texture and manipulability? For example, homosote can be sanded easily into a really amazing softness... kinda like peach fuzz... and it's easy to work with. Only problems: smells, the residue from cutting+sanding can float in the air for months before settling, it's super toxic even if it is recycled material...
uhhh... homasote is hardly toxic. infact it is used extensively as a greenbuilding material. if you're talking about the dust as a result from sanding, any material, toxic or not, has the potential to cause respiratory problems. i don't recall the trade name but industrial designers use blocks of foam that are easy to saw/cut/sand/paint. if you're making something more linear, get yourself some surfboard blanks and a router.
i mean "toxic" in the sense that it'll f*ck you up.... not "toxic" in the government's discerned meaning which we've all been socialized into understanding.
thanks for the input... now i'm looking for a manufacturer of balsa foam and whether that mfg can provide 4x8's or just blocks...
Alternatives to Homasote? (aka Homosote)??
Hello,
Can anyone offer alternative materials to homosote that have similar texture and manipulability? For example, homosote can be sanded easily into a really amazing softness... kinda like peach fuzz... and it's easy to work with. Only problems: smells, the residue from cutting+sanding can float in the air for months before settling, it's super toxic even if it is recycled material...
Any suggestions?
balsa foam...
