around 15th to 17th it is okay at 4th - you've got the ravine and greek spill-off to keep the riff raff away. down at 11 and 4th, now thats a different story. there's still 'adventurous' students to be found around there though.
The area's not bad...if you're an undergrad. From 11th to 17th is mostly a student area and will certainly feel like it. Yes, it's relatively safe until you get closer to 4th & Chittenden. I would seriously suggest (as per other discussion threads) that you check out other areas south of campus like Victorian Village, the Short North and Italian Village. They are more engaging and leave you with a better impression of Columbus than the student area.

Thoughts on East 17th-11th Ave area of Columbus
I'm looking to move soon. Would anyone care to comment on this area of town.
Thanks
just stay west of summit street and its party time, not crime time...
Would staying around N 4th street and E 17th Av be to far east? Does the area decline that quickly.
