Presdence for Process Representation (Art + Architecture)

Bench

I'm looking for a bit of help/suggestions on precedence for a school project. Our assignment is to represent the process in designing one part of our building studio projects, and I'm planning on doing a large-scale painting (approximately 6ft long by 2ft tall). I'm using influence from Cai Guo-Qiang's work in long, extended, drawn-out art projects, particularly his "Long Scroll" exhibition in Ottawa, Canada.

That being said, while there is a focus on narrative in Cai's work, the projects are fundamentally different as the degree of abstraction in my work will only be able to go so far. My painting will ultimately need to be readable without hefty explanation, and in that regard I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for architectural drawing narratives I should look at dealing with issues similar to this?

Thanks
