"if they give you ruled paper...write the other way" -Juan Ramon Jimenez
hehehe...sorry, somebody had to say it.
svalev...i'll be vague because i do agree with tman....look into the basics and make it your own...try an old-school book binder...build a box...try a new material...just be original. and if you can't be original...
...trapper-keeper.
I'm with max.
S-I-M-P-L-I-C-I-T-Y....pleeeeeaze!
Ya get all fancy shmancy and it's really annoying! It says a lot about "someone trying so hard" they're forgetting about the real substance. Is this some ploy to divert attention away from the fact that I stole the previous firm's dwgs and they're really not mine at all however if I make it look really GRRRAPHIC-like, they'll be impressed??? NOT!
Take note:
1. Cover letter - with contact person's NAME.
2. Include WHY you want to work for this firm (not a form letter stating "your firm is acknowledged to be so so-and-so..." (Act like you know what they have done and what they are doing.)
3. Keep resume concise.
4. Work samples: Don't make the typeface so damn small the gal like me who is going half-blind can't read it. Simple. Clear. Just a few highlights. Don't OVERDO!
GREAT LUCK TO YOU!

Sometimes is not the method of binding that make a book-cover special but rather the chosen materials and the graphic layout!!

16 gauge sheet metal and 3/8" lag bolts (need crowbars to open your portfolio though)
