In all honesty though, I am trying to figure out how to find housing in Cambridge come August. I will be attending MIT, but I currently live in Japan so i won't be able to look at places previous to renting one out, I imagine. I got to thinking that I would like a room mate who was also in an MArch program so we could share a common high stress life style. Kind of like how celebrities date other celebrities because only other celebrities can understand just how dysfunctional they are...or something.
Since you caught me at a vulnerable moment, I will be honest about myself: I am generally laid back, sometimes anal, I probably have mild OCD in my head but I am mildly messy in my personal space, causing me anxiety due to the fact that I need things to be organize but they never are. I am a bleeding heart liberal who literally likes to hug trees though you'd never guess it because I come off like a cynical metrosexual. I am a fan of comedy and mild pseudo-intellectualism, and I am not against mild drug use. I am also evidently very bad at selling myself. Who wants to hop on board?
In all honesty though, I like what I see on archinect. The posters here are generally thoughtful and dedicated, it seems. So, if you are a ambitious bohemian intellectual who will be living in Cambridge next year and are worried about finding a roommate, give me a buzz.
Here are random things that I like:
existentialism
sustainable design
modern lovers
cheez-its
pints of guinness
jazz
tadao ando
arrested development
richard rorty
iggy pop and the stooges
scandinavian woodwork
aristotlian ethics
tacos
self-medication
coffee shops
jim jarmusch
tom waits
and
girls with mildly bad attitudes
I'll probably have to do this over again, more professionally...and sober. I make a good housemate, though I swear.
guiggster, you sound like you'd be a very fun and easy-going roommate. Of course being married with child in the Midwest I'm not currently shopping for Bostonian roommates, sorry.
Though I have to admit I'd be a little worried to live with you for fear that you brought one of these monsters back with you in your suitcases from Japan!
guiggster, once again proving you're my favorite archinector.
don't worry if you don't find anything before you get back to the states. when you get to cambridge, find yourself a bar (which it sounds like you'll have no trouble doing) sit there and look a little pathetic. b'twn beers you can lament over having had to choose mit over yale and cranbrook...you're afraid you've ruined your life...etc. you'll have a home by the end of the night, no problem.
Can't help you with the roommate situation either, seeing as I just renewed my lease with my three roommates. But if you're looking for a place to live, close to campus, a lot of people live in Cambridgeport and Central and Inman Squares, as well as East Cambridge. Since there are so many students around, it tends to not be that hard to find housing - my roommates and I found our apartment on Craigslist. MIT also has subsidized and non-subsidized apartments: http://web.mit.edu/housing/och/
Wow, how many times did I say "mild" and "In all honesty though"? I guess I was feeling very honest...and mild. Thanks for the responses, though I gather that the only people who would consider living with me are people who know they live far enough away that it could never become a reality. I will bring steamed and butered mukade for anyone who accepts my proposal.
It is purely coincidental that I am here somewhat (judging by your number of posts) after you. I found this one day looking for nminusone architects. took me a while to clue in that it is some kind of in-joke involving math and not a kind of italian family name or a japanese desert. ??????
they? he? did a non-chalet house in Whistler with frameless windows. stunning.
Alas I can't go frameless. Inspected a load of WR Cedar today and debating to spend five hundred dollars on a planer or get a real hand unit and develop some skillz.
guiggster - I will be moving to Boston in August and will be studying Architecture as well (BAC). I've lived in Boston before (Brookline/Somerville for 6 years) and recently beeen in California for 6 years (Santa Cruz) . I know the Boston area (grew up 30 minutes away) and I'd be willing to look for a place with space for a sympathetic soul. Let me know what kind of rent your looking at.
I should state to those of you who have/will email[ed] me, that i am unbelievably terrible at replying in a timely fashion. It doesn't mean I don't like you...it just means that I haven't seen your picture and can't judge whether you are good looking from your writing...just kidding...or am i? Anyway, I'm not sure what i'm supposed to do at this point, since i made this thread in a semi-delirious state. I actually am interested in finding a roommate, and I do approve of most of what i see on this forum. But now do I do a semi-interview style thing? How about you all send me a link to your blog (everyone has one...don't lie!) and 4 photos...two preferably semi-nude. Since I don't want to seem unprofessional or discriminatory men can also send semi-nude photos*.
*[Note: Guiggster cannot guarantee that male semi-nude photos won't, in fact, hurt your chances of getting a reply]
I wonder if I've successfully scared off anyone who was interested in the first place. I swear, I can be serious when it matters. It just rarely matters.
skibum, I'm not overly familiar with rents in Cambridge though i've heard some figures. The key here is that I am not rich. And evidently, I never will be.
...unless I marry rich.
[Note: Attractive, single, down-to-earth, generous rich girls will be given preferable treatment due to Guiggster's equal opportunity policies and the fact that they are a minority.]
i was beginning to wonder if i'd said something odd...
maybe you, me and all the others that replied to your roomie posting should pool our resources and get a great big house with a yard, a fabulous kitchen, a lounge-worthy roof facing west and a porch swing. within walking distance of MIT.
what a thought.
i am going to ponder this whole blog and 4 photo thing.
however, i think first we all need to see your 4 photos and blog(s).
I'm currently teaching English in Japan, and quite frankly I can't wait to get the hell out of this job. My brain is the consistency of from underuse.
I'll be back in the states in August...I'm wondering if I failed to mention that I won't be able to look at apartments before renting...which is kind of one reason why I'm looking for a roommate. ...That's kind of a big omission on my part if I didn't say that. My honest apologies. I will upload 1 semi-nude photo for every 3 I get. Trust me, it's worth it. I have a body like a young Clint
Who wants to live with me in Boston?
Look at me. I got drunk and started a thread.

If I didn't already have a roomate I'd be game. But that doesn't do you any good, now does it?
guiggster, you sound like you'd be a very fun and easy-going roommate. Of course being married with child in the Midwest I'm not currently shopping for Bostonian roommates, sorry.

(As discussed here in ether's "Spider? ALien? wtf?" thread. Not suitable for those with a fear of crawling creatures.)
Good luck with the search and I enjoyed reading your (drunken) post!
guiggster, you sound like fun. I need a sublet for summer, want to spend it in Cincy? :oP
Whoa. liberty bell. JINX!
are u a good looking woman with a great job who likes to pamper her man and lend him money??? then count me in...
see if 18 abbey road is for rent in brighton its my old place....
let me ask sober guiggster, do you realize you listed in your interests "self-medication"....
I like existentialism, tacos and scandanavian woodwork too.
had it been scandanavian tacos then I may have moved from Montana, but alas Boston eludes me once again. Sorry GSDers.
guiggster, once again proving you're my favorite archinector.

or you could try craigslist.
hey, self-medication is a perfectly legitimate interest. Especially while self-medicating.
Hey, if I were in Boston, I'd be all over this. But alas, I'm somewhere much warmer...
Can't help you with the roommate situation either, seeing as I just renewed my lease with my three roommates. ya, it's much warmer here too...but if i were in Boston, I'd be down...
good luck guiggster. thanks for the laugh.

Mild - 5
Honest - 3
Oh, was that a rhetorical question?
can we just come for a visit?
get a comfy couch, so when I come to check out grad schools I have somewhere nice to crash...
Ok, you find the apartment and I'll find the couch.
oh no there goes the . . .
a refugee from BD!
Do you study architecture or are you just following me around interspace?
first it was the "get out of my Japan syndrome", not its.
I am intermittently studying architectural technology. I am kinda doing it, building a house this summer.
This is not meant to sound mean, bob, but I can't understand either one of your posts very well. Good to see you though.
they look perfectly comprehensible to me. not.
have you been drinking?

Enjoy Boston and all.
OK..
Who wants to live with me in Manhattan? I am looking for a roomie!
You could live in our BASEMENT....IN CONNECTICUT....which is real SCARRY!
Susan,
I am looking for a roommate in manhattan!
Well i am looking to be someones roommate as i dont have an apartment :P

until then-
I just figured everyone had. I guess it's not in my profile though. I have whored it around at various times on archinect though.
http://thejinx.org/
whoring or not,
with all due respect,
there are no semi-nude photos on your blog. you've got at least 2 to go.
nice site, though.
when are you due in the states? what are you doing in Japan?
I'm currently teaching English in Japan, and quite frankly I can't wait to get the hell out of this job. My brain is the consistency of from underuse.

...Howard.

Wow...the whole OCD thing in spirit but not in truth....lol
Are we related?
