I basically want to have a material on a rod at one side of a window... Then, in order to shade the interior of the room I want to be able to pull the matrial so that it stretches and you latch it on the other side of the window. Basically an elastic curtain. I need to be able to see through it, so it needs to be stretchy and translucent... Any ideas??
Elastic materials have very limited use in architecture (mostly for filling joints). Problem is that elastics turn rigid pretty quickly (especially in terms of building life expectancy). Also, horizontal window treatments of any kind are a bad idea due to sag.
Otherwise, your idea is cool, if not necessarily feasible.
