I have also been accepted by both Columbia and Lane Tech. Unfortunately, I was so busy deciding whether to include creative writing in my portfolio/finishing my Science Fair exhibit on tectonic plates, I have been unable to do any research on either school. Can someone who has attended both please compare and contrast them at length?

While I have heard people complain about Columbia's cramped quarters and over-emphasis on digital methods, Lane Tech's emphasis on PE/Health and Lunch is also not immune to critique. It really depends on your own preferences and cardiovascular system. While Columbia doesn't require a PE component, most students do find the six flights of stairs to be a decent workout.

Lane Tech -- if only for the chance to hang out with the goths behind the PE building, smoke cigarettes, and debate about Skinny Puppy vs My Chemical Romance.

you don't want to go to lane tech unless you want to end up with an unjustifiably huge ego and thousands of dollars in debt.

but that's just one bird's opinion.

If you get into Lane Tech, you get a phone call. The only drawback is that the 1st period bell is at 8:00.

Take it from me, a tenured professor at Lane Tech High School, we push our students to seek excellence - from charrettes during homeroom to pin-ups during history class.

I've published a number of papers: "The Effect of Home Economics on the Organizational Parti of a Cafetorium," "Algebra and Phenomenology," and "Ten Cross-Axial Rotations by 2nd Period Gym Class."

how much aide are people getting from lane tech? i just got my acceptance letter but only $5k in aide. Should I ask for more? Who should I contact? The drafting teacher, secretary,or principal?

Accepted!!! under conditions. Spoke to a guidance counselor and she said I would have to attend a summer program there, which includes:

Pre-Physical Education
Home Economics
Pre-CAD
Pre-Sex Education


They are really pushing the computer and have a paperless studio, I guess they are trying to be the Columbia via UCLA of the mid-west.
But is it a four-year program? And is it NAAB accredited?

Word of advice: part of the admission process is that you have to memorize and sing the school song. I failed this - kept on saying 'shame' instead of 'fame'.

I heard a rumor that Liz Diller is leaving Princeton for LTech and Ando is opening an office in Chicago and teaching core studio there???

I just heard from their financial office, they will give me breakfast but no lunch at the cafeteria for the first year. I dont know if I can do it without lunch....

Have you guys heard anything about Lane Tech's sustainability options? I mean, I think they're good but I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it, what with the mandatory typing class credits and all.
