I'm looking into architecture schools on both sides of the pond and, having been out of school for a couple of years, I have warmed to the idea of doing this at graduate school.
In the US, various schools have graduate programs leading to an "M.Arch. I" first professional degree in architecture. Is anyone aware of any such programs in Europe? I'm not primarily looking to be awarded a grduate degree, but I would prefer to attend a program with a graduate-level age group.
Your age thing will always be off in continental Europe. They have a 3 year Bachelor and a 2 year Master, which allows them to technically complete their (graduate) studies sooner than we do in the States. Speaking from my master class, most people are 3-4 years younger than me and their skills less developed, also because I worked before returning to uni. They usually never complete their 5 year studies in one go though, it generally takes them 7-8 years to finish the coursework. Only this year have they started implementing fees for students who take over 7 years from start to finish.
What is your Bachelors in? There are some post grad architecture programs (AA, Berlage etc) but these are not professional degrees. I dont think it is easy to enter a Masters in Europe without a relevant design background, ie at minimum a BA or BS in environmental design, architecture, interiors etc, they are quite strict on this. Our 5 year BArchs do not have an equivalent here either...everyone in Europe earns a Masters in Architecture.
So to answer your question, I dont know of any MArch1 equivalents...maybe someone else has found one?!

M.Arch. I equivalent in Europe
Hi,
I'm looking into architecture schools on both sides of the pond and, having been out of school for a couple of years, I have warmed to the idea of doing this at graduate school.

Any thoughts would be most welcome!
Thanks,
Steve
