Moving to London- Can you help me out?

PeteyPablo

So after a good run at a good firm in NYC I am taking off for London for a year before going back to school.

I would like to get a job working for an artist, or making things in more immediate way. A departure from doing AutoCAD on buildings halfway across the world.

The thing is, I don't know a damn thig about the art scene in London. Can you recommend people I should check out? People you like? Lend some advice?

Thanks in advance....

you should look at the roster [stable of london based artists ] at a couple really good galleries: white cube/sadie coles/contact tate modern/ gagosian/ the ICA/ serpentine .. etc. i suggest this as if artists are showing at these bigger spaces they probably have a large production need + could need an assistant. [ you may need to actually call the galleries as they are pretty busy, and if you e mail / or send a letter you may not hear back for 4 months +. but you should really look into what interests you in the artists work soo you will be more involved at a level of learning - i've worked in the past as an artist assistant/now am an architect. i was the only other person in the studio + the artist was/is very bright and we would have great discussions throughout the day - so find someone you respect. that sounds like fun / if they have shows scheduled you'll get to meet people at the openings + in london it;s an excellent scene .. very cool. [ you may need to get paid sterling under the table so figure that out too as , as a us citizen you legally wiuth a visa and blue card can only saty 6 mo. in uk. good luck !
