Which country do you think has the best architecture? This of course is dependant on how you define good architecture. However, I personally feel with my definition of "good architecture" that Tokyo, Japan has the most innovative, funtional and deeply thought out architectural design.
They seem to be atleast 10 years ahead of everyone else, not only in architectureal design but design in general.
I love the way in which they are a bit rebellious with their designs (such as Muji which actually means "No Brands"-it has however become very successful and is now seen as a brand; although little is disclosed about who designers of their products).
I also believe that Dubai has absolutely stunning architecture in terms of aesthetics, but I don't know much about the functionallity of their buiildings as I've never been inside one.
Tokyo is behind the times my friend, they've just recently discovered the 'tower in the park' as is evidenced by Shiodome and Roppongi Hills. It is, however, still an interesting place to observe borrowed culture.
Oh and also, the most rebelious thing i've ever seen in Tokyo is a group of street performers doing their 'act' on a Sunday afternoon in Shinjuku Sanchome despite clearly posted signs from the Tokyo Police prohibiting such activity. Now thats rebellion...stick it to the man!
discussions sometimes seem tired without you, welcome back. BTW architecture in the us sux!
best use of light Portugal - south light works wonder on those massive volumes.
Australia is climing up there with best use of the environment (Murcutt, Stuctchbury, et al)
but give it to the third world for reuse. Building reuse, material reuse, people reuse - turning your hand to make fashion is something any and every architect should learn but there are people doing out of necessity.
I've had massive volumes in Portugal, Aussieland climbing up there, and reused the 3rd world on many occasions - - - but what are we talking about here?
For that matter (while we are on the subject): American women rock too!
See ya'
