No music/no headphones would be a deal-killer for me if I were stuck at a desk all day.

yeah - i've been here for a year and it's only recently REALLY started to annoy me.

given that i work for myself, it's music all day, all the time. sorry john, i've been there. worked in a small san fran office for a couple of years. boss had a no music policy. occassionally on friday afternoons, she would allow some classical music. ugh.

invisible in-ear headphones. thats what you need.

after 5+ years of no music and sneaking headphones when the boss is away, you get used to it... and these days i actually prefer the silence

I convinced my office that if they were going to make me do cad 40 hours a week, there wasn't a goddamn thing they could do about me and my ipod. But we were formerly a headphone-free office.

I got the back office in my boss' house so i can play music...i bring cds and tune to the radio once in a while...but there are times when i just forget about playing music and go the whole 8 hours with silence...that's when i start playing air drums with the yellow pencils if i have a song in my head

...oh and i don't have any co-workers so i can put any kind of music i like except for grindcore...i put those on when the boss is at the job site...he's kind of religious, don't want him to flip him out with devil music...

never had such a situation ... in fact in my office, EVERYONE listens to music ... kinda nice actually, tend to learn a lot about different styles of music ( see my collegues are all from different countries!!)

That would be a deal breaker with me...if I couldn't listen to music, I no worky.

beatle, how would you ask that in an interview? I've got a million little things I'd like to know about an office before I work for them (will they put up with my piercing habit? can I listen to music?) but no knowledge of how to ask without seeming petty, or like I'm trying to demand a lot of them.

I can't believe there is even such thing as a 'no headphone office'. Obviously, the morons that made that policy must not pay attention to productivity related to worker happiness/satisfaction.

I couldn't work without my own music, certainly not for more than a day.

i think it's ok to ask the headphones question during a follow-up interview or after you've gotten an offer letter. it's also something i try to take notice of when i'm being shown around the office during an interview. if they're allowed most people who have them leave them right out on their desks.

One day i ran my ipod headphone up through my shirt and in my left ear for about 30 minutes. Then I got scared and wet myself.
