If I was crazy, I would say that all this hype about bird flu/SARS/West Nile /etc. is all a ploy by the Bush administration to keep us plebs in a constant state of fear and ignorance in order to make the administration's control over this country iron-clad. But I'm not crazy, but I will say that the media's current fixation on pie-in-the-sky doomsday scenarios instead of real world issues like the political scandals (Jack Abromoff anyone?) is mighty suspicious...
If you keep the masses ignorant and fearful, you can provoke them towards any means you wish.
