OK that was sort of an exaggeration. But there aren't any good ones. Hennessey & Ingalls is about it, and since I'm on the east side, it's actually easier for me to buy my books online, in SF or NY or wherever I'm visiting. The bookstores of some museums have decent stuff - the Hammer, Moca, etc. But in terms of a place that has a really good selection of new & classic books, periodicals, etc., LA is a desert. Which is pretty much indicative of the design environment in LA...

While it may not be convenient depending on where you're located within LA, Hennesy & Ingalls does have a great selection. Jas, if you're looking for a good arch bookstore in LA area (H&I is in Santa Monica) this is it.

Form Zero is no longer there. The owner sold it, the new owners changed the name and moved the store over by LACMA somewhere, I don't recall the new name or address.

There are plenty of excellent bookstores in L.A.--
Henessey and Ingalls is the best architecture bookstore, but you can also try Dutton's in Brentwood, Skylight Books in Los Feliz, and Book Soup in West Hollywood.
I was recently looking for an obscure architecture title that Dutton's had as well as H+I.
I think the new Form Zero (on Wilshire) might have closed as well? Last I heard they lost their space and were having a huge sale.

Form Zero has closed. There is a small 'art, architecture, and design' bookstore at Bergamot Station, Santa Monica. http://www.bergamotstationbooks.com/
It's not that great yet- but they just started so who knows.
