"I'm really surprised that there doesn't seem to be a previous post about this..."
what are you, twelve years old? who flippin cares? it's the most assinine question i can imagine asking on this board is why there isn't 'a previous post about this.'
there's tons of posts on this. I had to look over the list to see if I had replied to this one...and it appears I haven't. So I will 'cause it's what we do here on archinect!
FLW - site integration, so many successful styles, did not succumb to the trends the lived and died around him
Lautner - just gorgeous formal moves, incredible materials and detailing, gorgeous combination of 'real' living warmth and form
Mayne - for teaching for so damn long (and I benefited from that), continual experimentation - some successful, some not, business success without compromise, just dandy sock collection ;-)
Hadid - incredible dynamism in everything she does, I am a real sucker for making architecture that looks pure in a dynamic way
There's more, of course, but as pescador points out 'who flippin cares?'
Yeah, I like LTL, and SANNA as well. Last summer, our teacher in Japan (Kinya Maruyama) refused to tell us the names of a building's architect. I think it was brilliant because so many people, especially students have the gut reaction of "WHO MADE IT!?" It made more sense to look at it and see if it was good. How did it make you feel? Was the space nice? etc. You usually hear of people going on these religious pilgrimages to starchitect buildings and miss out on a lot of neat little random things. I've seen a lot of Ando buildings and I tell you what, I'm really underwhelmed by him anymore.
that's a great idea on the part of your professor, Hasselhoff...such a true observation...
my 1st time in Tokyo, my friends and I ran across a very interesting Dior bldg in Jingumae-Shibuya. We were in the neighborhood for something entirely different (actually, looking for The Designer's Republic shop - a most difficult task)...
it was weeks later, back in the states upon seeing the Dior bldg in a monograph, that we realized it was by SANAA...
Favorite Architect?

Going by the very few monographs I have in my collection, I value the following architects:
Luis Barragan
Tadao Ando
John Lautner
Preston Scott Cohen
H&deM
RCR Aranda Pigem Vilalta
Wiel Arets
