Why doesn't anyone show built work in their M.Arch portfolio? I am looking at the others posted here for inspiration and all of the projects are academic schematic types. Is there a reason people don't show built work? I am planning on showing some built projects in mine, but is there something I am missing?
My portfolio consists only of built projects (a cabin, furniture, and blacksmithing work). I'm hoping that these projects stand out amongst other applicants. However, I don't know if there is a popular opinion on this.
I am not sure how much a built project really would interest an M.Arch program, as they tend to focus more on the design-y side of things. Though if you are refering to projects that you clearly were in complete control of (like the types Drum mentions), then yes i think those actually would help you stand out a lot
My M.Arch class consisted mainly either of those too young to have any real built work that they had a hand in, or those older who were switching over to architecture as a career.

most m.arch students don't have built work?
Ah, maybe I am older than most at 29.
You mean models?
Unless it's a design build, or some personal built project (furniture comes to mind) I dont think most students will have completed work to showcase.
hey lagger,
you're not alone, i'll also be showcasing a couple of built projects in my school application portfolio.
