what type of paper are you guys using for your portfolio? i am printing on a color laser jet using mohawk 32 lb paper. i tried using this paper on an inkjet and the pages started curling (i have double sided pages with full bleeds). i'm guessing a heavier paper will resolve this, but how heavy should i go?

i tend to agree that the inkjets produce superior prints but the canon i9900 i purchased just got returned due to what appeared to be a defective print head. rather than risking further problems, i returned it and decided laser printing for the earlier berkeley application.

so, what paper are you using (type/weight, manuf.)?

and what hardware (inkjet/laser, manuf of printer/kinko's)?

SuperHeavy

i'm going against my normal tendency to find the heaviest, most textured paper I can instead using higher gloss, thinner, magazine type paper. It just seemed to resolve a lot of issues I'd had in the past with getting the thing to layflat and flip through easily and such.
I printed out a test copy on whatever kinko's had it looked alright.

i used something similar to what +q. used...it was a double-sided matte paper...i can't recall the weight...

i printed it at home on an HP Deskjet 932C...it turned out pretty nice...

i also printed my covers on some thin chipboard which looked pretty cool...

anyone know where i could find paper that's double-sided for ink-jets but ligher weight than the HP brochure paper?
i'm looking for something like what Superheavy referred to as "higher gloss, thinner, magazine type paper." i just want to be able to buy it myself and print it on my own inkjet. i can't seem to find stuff like that anywhere!

i used Domtar Nekoosa Linen in 70lb text recycled white. It is a nice weight, not to heavy but not flimsy either and the linen weave makes anything you print on look very professional. the 70lb text should print in both ink jet and laser printers. 500 sheets of 11X17 cost about $30, which is very reasonable.

domtar has a really nice line of papers and if you go through their contact us link they will send you their sample books so you can see and feel all of their colors and weights, as well as see if there is a retailer in your area.

you might also want to look in the phone book and check out some other places that sell paper, making sure that it is suitable for your needs. and before you purchase anything, ask for a sample sheet, take it home or whereever you plan on printing your stuff, and verify that it will print in your printer. office experience trying to make a new interiors brochure and the interior designer and marketing person bought paper and then we found out our printer, let alone any print shop in the city could print on it. we got stuck with a ream of paper we could not use. not fun at all.

someone here recommended red river paper and it was a great find.

they've got this great deal where they sell sample packs with 15 or 20 different kinds of paper for under $10, and if you end up purchasing a type of paper that was included in the sample pack, you get the cost of the sample pack refunded.

lumijet makes a double sided matte, which is great for printing on both sides. i have an epson 1280...the marriage of these two couldn't have been more perfect.

i can't recommend a paper any stronger then this stuff...

I tried printing something on Mohawk Superfine with an HP laserjet a few years ago, and the toner wouldn't stick to the paper. It just flaked right off. I ended up using an inkjet, which worked well except for one copy that got wet and was ruined forever.
