anyone compile video productions.......finding it difficult to find COntemporary ambient music for rendered animations..
...any ideas..
..aiming toward chemical bros, but seems a bit cliche..........any suggestions????..
(imagining 'switched on bach' playing as slightly goofy 'rendered' characters walk robotically across the mezzanine for X building whilst trees/ in-door plants sway robotically)
In addition to Underworld and Aphex Twin as mentioned above, I'd suggest this CD. Very good stuff.
There's also a CD called "Bellerophon" by Under The Dome that I love... it has a very Tangerine Dream feel to it. Not sure if you'd be able to find it online, though.
Some IDM on my ipod right now... there are a great deal more artists, but these artists represent the many facets of "modern" electronic music - or Intelligent Dance Music = IDM

All of these are often ridiculously beautiful, audially ambient, and well worth listening to on headphones - or in the context of an architectural animation. Good luck!
Not strictly contemporary as the movement miniature as it was may have come and gone, but one of my favourite albums ever was called detroit beatdown, vol 1 in had fantastic tracks- the two highlights being Alton Miller's TULUM, Nor Talley's CHANGE and Darren Abrams's LOOSE PIANO. Superfantastic.
other than that:
Tujiko Noriko,

Aoki Takamasa
or you could try

Prolly wins hands down!
What about collaborating with a music student?
Then you'd acknowledge the amount of lift you are getting from the music (someone else's work) rather than just clipping it? Having just read the Gazprom thread and all the naive recrimination about how architects crib or recycle their own work (and how offensive that is to the gods of originality...) maybe those who crib others' music for their animations should collaborate more? Or make their peace with how flat the animations can seem without that driving beat.
If you aren't a student and you're doing it for work, it seems like copyright violation (of the real kind) to try to make money off of someone else's work without sharing the profits with them? Though I am sure the chemical brothers are used to it by now.
What about some of the djs on www.dnbradio.com? I think they are probably reachable by email and could consent to have their music used in return for the publicity?

good suggestions....
perhaps some radiohead? from their amnesiac or kid a albums?
Einsturzende Neubauten works well.
Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman. Dates from the early '90s, still awesome.
Aphex Twin - Ambient Works '85-'92. Another timeless classic
Both make excellent aural wallpaper with benefits.
Or for slightly more contemporary post-dance wauralpaper
Sigur Ross
Or
(Godspeed descendants) A Silver Mt. Zion
Why not use something post-rock like the Japancakes, Amina or the Rachels?
Ambient and trance are very 2000....they make renderings seem like bad video games.
"any thing "not so" comtemporary??......"
How Dare you! You're an Architect - it is your duty to be contemporary!
boards of canada - the campfire headphase
underworld - second toughest of the infants
lost in translation soundtrack - various tracks
the orb - adventures beyond the ultraworld
I like to use Tosca.

you can dance like david gahan in this video while presenting your work...
Global Underground mix CD's have a decent array of tracks I think - although some are pretty banging...
