from yesterday, i'm desperately trying to understand how to fix my pc, man macs are so much easier...
There is a classic and briliant Calvin and Hobbes comic in which Calvin has built an enormous city of toys in his room and upon completion, he turns in "Calvin-zilla" or something similar and proceeds to stomp on and crush the entire city, fantasizing about people running in terror before the path of destruction wrought by Calvin.
His mom looks in and says to his dad "Look at Calvin so absorbed in playing with his city" and dad says proudly "I bet he grows up to be an architect."
I have searched the web for a jpg of this comic but no luck - and that's in part a testament to Bill Watterson's (the artist's) insistence that Calvin and Hobbes not become a marketed product but remain a "pure" comic. I miss Calvin.
Steven you are my hero for the day....I only have one book of theirs, I think it's "the Authoritative Calvin & Hobbes", and it's packed in deep storage still after the move...
heh, I had to ask because I'm a C&H freak. I thought of that strip shortly after posting. there's also one where he's at the beach, building sandcastles in the line of the surf and imagining tidal waves crushing a city. And the one where he does the same thing in a sandbox and godzillas it. And there's a couple where he imagins himself as a dinosaur and eats his classmates. you probably mixed in one or more of those strips in your memory of it.
there's a "complete calvin & hobbes" that just came out... I waited anxiously for it, to finally have pristine prints of everything (I had been slowly collecting the first edition hardcovers, which have better quality prints than the later paperbacks - which I have all of) however it's missing one strip, they farked up the colors, and the prints are too shiny (wrong paper)...I'm pissed. the sad thing is I'll still buy it anyway just to have the snow goons strips in color.
the "10th anniversary edition" and "it's a magical world" are good places to start for collectors. "sunday pages 1985-1995" also has the best prints of any of the collections released yet, including the final one.
wow, reading over that I sound enormously pathetic.

so evil are your a firstborn or later? It really does amtter - I think most architects are probably youngest children.
sabbo, this thread sprung from a thread in which someone posed your question - do a search for "google history" at the bottom of the discussions page, it should come up.
I don't save my google search history, I'm always paranoid someone is going to be as nosy as I am.... I looked on one of my co-worker's search history and there one of the things on there was something about obtaining a medical license without going to school.... Hmm....
youngest of 2. the older brother is much more analytical, reasonable, and "smart" than I am, he's the doctor. Our parents were both teachers, then farmers. Farmers with master's degrees mind you.
Strawbeary, you must be MY dopple - my older sister the doctor is also much smarter than I am! But aren't our parents proud, saying "Our kids grew up to become a doctor and an architect..." It sounds great, if people only knew the truth about architecture as a profession!
lb and Strawbeary, my oldest sister is a doctor, too!
That must be a trend.... I have a couple of other sisters in there, too, though. One's in sales and the other is an interior designer. My mom is a teacher, my dad's an engineer. Neither of them are farmers, but our neighbor grows vegetables in his backyard....

i've got that one, liberty. will scan it and send it to you later today. (page 75, 10th anniversary book, for those who have it.)
Steven you are my hero for the day....I only have one book of theirs, I think it's "the Authoritative Calvin & Hobbes", and it's packed in deep storage still after the move...
You rock Mr. Ward!
Beautiful inkwray - such an optimistic end note. I cried when I read it the first time.
And thank you Steven, for the infamous architect Calvin strip! I was a little off in my synopsis...but the gist is there.
heh, I had to ask because I'm a C&H freak. Not pathetic, manamana - there is enormous joy for life in Calvin and Hobbes. They are two of the best philosphers out there.
with all that white snow I could think of much more creative ways to express myself.
