I challange someone to beat Tron or Labyrinth, two classics. (good call yellowtrave)
on a slightly different note, Godfrey Reggio's 3 part series,
Koyaanisqatsi
Powaqqatsi and
Naqoyqatsi
which were produced and released over the course of 20 years, are amazing. Philip Glass on the score...Yo-yo Ma even has a cello solo in the last one...if you haven't seen 'em, dedicate three consecutive weekends...
that's a great movie. I commented the set design of fifth element which I dislike mostly because it is a bad digital daylight version of Syd Mead's work in Blade Runner. Clokwork orange is great, and the architecture presented is a good picture of the architectural creativity of the Brits after WWII.
Ive always thought Lord of the Rings did a great job with its architecture. Obviously not for modern arch but i thought they showed many different styles of arch... as for more contemporary arch i enjoyed the incredibles as well.
The truman show? Andres Duany, I love you........insert sarcasm here.
Also, in no way am I attempting to be gross here but, I truly do believe that the set design and/or use of the banal suburban home as the setting/subject for nearly all pornography can and should be the subject of a theory course or discussion at some university.
the greatest use of architecture in a film, or rather the film that truely used teh architecture as a charactor is ORSON WELLES'S adaptation Franz Kafka's "THE TRIAL" starring anthony perkins
The scenes from "The Indian Tomb" a 1960s German movie where the main characters were james bond type architects and the director was an architect so the spaces are great.

Best Architecture in Cinema
What's your favorite architecture in movies?
Here's some cool healthcare arch... Apparently patients don't enjoy single-occupancy rooms in the future.
'tron' and 'the labyrinth'
the future of architecture
the prison of thx 1138 is very scary and very much more like the future of architecture to me.

oops, that's: yellowtrace
i go with thx 1138, and tron, but nothing beats ken adam...
and a bad guy,
but havent we been here before?
with Fred Savage
Not so much architecture per say, but set design. Alien.
clockwork orange & the fifth element
fifth element is such a bad movie. Everything that's good in the city design is a rip off of blade runner, and the rest is crap...
i thought we were discusing architecture in movies? not whether or not we think the movie is good. what do you think about clockwork orange?
herbie goes banans, fantastic architecture.

the new aeon flux movie looks to have some nice futuristic architecture
I have only seen part of it because it was annoying me but the movie Brazil seemed to be good for architecture.
Ive always thought Lord of the Rings did a great job with its architecture. Obviously not for modern arch but i thought they showed many different styles of arch... as for more contemporary arch i enjoyed the incredibles as well.
Dark City...transforming its appearance and re-programming its contents
really - has anyone really looked at the architecture in the newer starwars movies? Episode 1,2,3 - Naboo and tatooine (sp?)
I think they do really good job showing aerials and perspectives of city tops as much as possible. futurusticatedness i call it. my word. mine.
Padme's apartment
'Mon Oncle' is centred around taking the piss out of a Moderninst house. Every part of the house is satirised. Great stuff.
Padme's apartment is about the coolest thing i've ever seen
Casa Malaparte in Goddard's "Contempt"
malaparte + naked bardot. mmmm
cameron's parents house (and car) in ferris beullers day out.
any bond movie.
ghost in the shell.
I always liked the set design / architecure in the movie 'Toys'...
nothing better than a movie with LL Cool J in it

Architecture understood as space: Vertigo
The CIty of Lost Children
edward scissorhands was pretty cool.
The scenes from "The Indian Tomb" a 1960s German movie where the main characters were james bond type architects and the director was an architect so the spaces are great.

city of the lost children
By the way, I second Dark City, The City of Lost Children & Blade Runner.
I think that the LOCATION made this house a star.
