Does anyone have any advice or help for a Chemistry student that wants to (if possible) transfer into an Architecture program somewhere? I've recently had a change of heart of what I want to do with my life and, instead of going to medical school, this may be the path that I want to follow. I know it won't be easy, considering I'm a sophomore and barely have a portfolio (just some sketches I've done but nothing really substantial), but it's is worth a shot anyway.
Any help, guidance, advice, anything would be greatly appreciated.
I would say finish your undergrad degree in Chemistry and take some drawing/3D/design classes on the side. After you're done you can apply for a 3 year masters of architecture (M.Arch I) degree for people who have unrelated undergrad degrees. If you were to transfer now you would most likely have to start from year 1 again and lose a lot of time and effort.
I'd also suggest that you take part in one of the many intro to arch summer programs (CDisco, Making and Meaning, [IN]ARCH, etc) to see if studio life is a good fit for you.
And since you're only a sophomore, couldn't you still swtich majors to something that you'd enjoy a bit more than chem?
I understand that you are hoping to move on and join with an architecture program. but, first think through your decision again! because, the decision you make may affect your future and it might be either in a good way or a bad way. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't want to ruin your life by bad choices. So, i recommend you consulting an specialist in Architecture field and discussing the facts and difficulties of that stream. if you are positive that you can be successful in that field, you will be more confident and also you will be successful!

Stick with medicine. If you want to design homes later on, you still can. This way you might actually be able to live in something you design.
[above post got me the first good laugh of the day! Well done]
