Bergman

SpringFresh

I've long been a fan of wild strawberies and persona, and i'm wondering which one to watch next- there seem to be so many...

Can anyone give me a great reccomendation?

Or something slightly related- I loved Von Trier's the Five Obstructions.

I prefer to watch films on reccomendation, and everyone here is usually frighteningly well informed..
so please fire away.

To see:

"Fanny & Alexander" - A visual feast. Rent the long version (four hours).

"Scenes from a marriage" - A classic, simply. Fantastic acting within strict constraints. Hopefully we can soon enjoy international distribution of its so-called sequel "Saraband".

"Frenzy" / "Torment" - Alf Sjöberg directing after a script by Bergman.

"The Seventh Seal"

"Faithless" - Liv Ullman directing after a script by Bergman.

"Through a glass darkly"

To read: the autobiography "Laterna Magica".

To visit: Fårö in the Baltic Sea, off Gotland.

the seventh seal is a must-see.. a chess game with mrs. Death herself.. there are some classic segments like the final dance which is deliciously superb.. also Max von Sydow's desperate cry against the "Silence of God" is another tour de force of the film... love the initial scene on the beach as well...

one of my all time faves definitely..

7th seal trumps all....

as for VonTrier, check out Dogville, and avoid the Kingdom mini-series.
