I'm applying to MIT for their MArch programme, and I'm also interested in a dual degree with DUSP. The thing is, I'm not applying to DUSP this year since I wouldn't go if I didn't alsoget into the arch. programme, since my primary interest is architecture. Should I mention in my SOP that I'm interested in pursuing a dual degree? I just don't know if I should be mentioning how I think DUSP is a great programme when I should be talking about the architecture dept, or whether they will like to hear of my interest in other departments. Any advice would be very welcome.
I visited MIT a couple weeks ago and talked to their admissions rep. Her name is Annette, and you can email her directly. She's very helpful. From what I got from talking to her, it's best to focus your attention on architecture. Once you're into the school for what you're most competent in-- and MIT is unique in this way -- then you can apply for a dual degree. In other words, it's something you can mention briefly as a goal, but not something to focus on. But I wouldn't go by just my advice. MIT is my first choice as well, and I hope to do a dual degree with the Media Lab.
