sfmoma curator of architecture and design

Rumor has it that there's a short-list of four candidates to replace Joseph Rosa at sfmoma. They're deciding should it be a west coast/California-based candidate or east coast? Should it be someone from a diverse architecture/design background (as Aaron Betsky) or a museum educated/historian type? Any thoughts?

Gone to Chicago Art Institute--apparently a job offer too good to refuse. Rosa is purchasing the Art Institutes architecture and design archive to fill the new building opening somewhere around 2009...Rosa referred to it as a Bridal Registery..he's putting together a wishing list and hoping he gets takers.

But Rosa left sfmoma in a lurch...but their hoping to find someone willing to turn sfmoma into a thriving arch/design department and not a stepping stone job.

The question is who is the peoples choice?

I would think Peter Zellner would be interested in sfmoma, or even Michael Speaks....what does a curator really do? Are they spokesman for the profession, or a mascot?

it's a very interesting job, imo. hopefully it won't be a 'mascot' but someone who will ruffle feathers. i think the profession of assembling a public show has become something too seperated from theoretical production. in a way, the curator should not even be afraid to put together the "boring" show sometimes. It's the boring shows that from time to time reveal gaps in historical narratives.
