go see some shows!!! i dont know how... but canada is producing the best music these days! wahts up with that! broken social scene! arcade fire! wolf parade!(from montreal) who remebers the unicorns! from 2 years back, canadians...
and especially in montreal, its seemingly a 'hot bed' for new music ... sorry that wasnt about buildings, ive actually never been there... so i dont really know
I checked some of the local venues, i would defintely love to see a show while I'm there. Know of any good venues up there? The trouble is, most of the bands form Montreal are getting so big, they're all out touring right now. Stars are touring with death cab, i think the arcade fire is in Europe now.
atelier big city was the only architecture firm I'd ever set foot in before I got my first job in the real world.
pretty sad that is what I had to go on, thought maybe they were all like that (how naive!) , thought I was in the best career ever. their studio and work is great, great people as well.
CCA - Architecture Museum
Museum of Contemporary Art @ Place des Artes
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts - Moshe Safdie
Habitat 67 - Safdie
Montreal Casino
Montreal Public Libary - Patkau Architects
Archeology Museum - Dan Haganu Architect
Check out Dan Haganu and Saucier + Perotte websites for their buildings in Montreal. Two great offices.
Partying:
Crescent Street
St. Laurent Street
St. Catherine Street
Check out
Grande Bibliotheque du Quebec, just opened, from Patkaus
Quartier INternational with the Palais des Congres (colorful) and the Caisse de Placement (corporate ultra-chic with colossal slick main-hall)
Between these 2 buildings, don't miss the Fog + Fire show at the Riopelle Plaza featuring a great sculpture from Jean Paul Riopelle...a legendary artist. I think the show starts at the 10th minute of each hour.
Have a look at Place VIlle-Marie, Montreal's highest tower by I.M. Pei...a classic of International Style.
Don't miss the Olympic Stadium with it's Tower...and try to figure out how they did this in the 70' without any computers...(World's tallest inclined tower)
Go to Parc Jean Drapeau to have a look at Buckminster's Fuller Geodesic Dome from the 1967 International Fair

gravitas, no sorry, it was over 5 years ago and I don't remember much. They gave me a beer, I wandered around their studio.
