Howdy. Doing yet another semester long research project. We're looking at responsive building skins and crap like that (not my topic choice, but majority rules). I'm in charge or researching new materials and technologies. I've got a few sources lined up, but I was wondering if anyone has seen anything really cool lately. Doesn't have to be only an architectural material. Could be from any field that could have potential in architecture. Or maybe some kind of new technology or a new fabrication process. We're just looking at innovation. Any ideas would be great.
Where are you located? If you are in NYC - try to get in touch with Material Connection... i've been before and it's mindblowing. A full showroom af almost every material. It reminded me of OMA's Rotterdam office's library. Really crazy stuff. You might want to look at a cellular constructed polymer - they tend to be flexible and can create a really interested texture to a surface such as a wall.

I've discovered this material, it's wonderful. Aparently it's been around ages but I've never seen the like. Get this. It grows in a field.

oh it's for real. Saw it myself in a concrete exhibit at the Nat'l Building Museum.
