At first I was like, where's Split, Croatia. But then I realized by favorite 'ancient city/town', you really meant favorite 'call center'.

I assume you mean ancient city that still exists today?

*Pingyao, Xaanshi, China http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/812  A remarkably well preserved ancient city that still functions as a real city today...

*Tbilisi, Georgia .. reall cool city in a gorge, with pieces that are remarkably well preserved, kind of a dark and sooky place, but in a beautiful way

*Xochimilco, Mexico City.. the surviving remnant of the chinampas (floating platforms) of the ancient meso-American metropolis of Tenochtitlan

*Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia.. the ancient cultural heart of Java, still an operating city with much of the ancient fabric still intact

publa bonito, new mexico  if they would only get rid of the campground and all those motor homes calling themselves campers.  Ah...to remember when Campers were people and not something tooling down the road.

Someday Plano, Texas will be both lost and ancient, and archaeologists will puzzle over its ruins.
