college apps to barch

broknchopstyx

helllooo everyone, im currently a rising senior planning to apply to a barch program right off the bat. i spent the past 6 weeks at the cornell architecture summer program and loved every second of it. im planning to apply early there in november.

1. if anyone could reccomend other top barch 5 yr programs that would be great. im also planning to get my masters in a good school too but i wanted to make sure i apply to a wide variety of good undergrad schools in good locations.

2. in regards to my portfolio, im planning to add a wide variety of things including pencil drawings, pastels, pen sketches, and work produced at the summer program. if anyone could provide tips on what i should focus on or what helped them get into a barch program that would be awesome too

do high grades and perfect sat scores necessarily equal a better chance in acceptance? or does a strong portfolio weigh heavily as well? i was worried about retaking the sat's since it would take more time and possibly restrict my early decision application

MIKE!!! this is JUSTIN HUI FROM CORNELL!!!!

great to see you on archinect! don't be an addict like me though...actually a lot of ppl from cornell go on this (including Mason and Colin)

i'm applying early too. my schools though are cornell, u of arizona (safety), cooper, rice, and wustl and mit.

i'm also trying to make my portfolio right now...from what i've learnt, work that demonstrates clear ideas is really important.

i'm also thinking whether or not to retake the sat...i did ok but it takes so much work and anxiety to take it again. if you did well on it i would focus on the portfolio. that is muchos important

cornell sc!!!

hey guys, i go to cornell right now, applied early decision a few years ago. i think whats best is to have a solid portfolio demonstrating a wide range of skills and interests...dont pack it full of architecture (although you should def. put in your summer college stuff). rather mix it up: painting, drawing, photo, sculpture, etc.

as for SATs it never hurts to retake them if you arent happy with your scores (cornell and other schools usually have averages published somewhere, if youre near those numbers its fine, above even better)...you can do so in sept or oct and still get them sent to cornell in time for ED (its only 3 hours or so one weekend anyway).

you can drop me an email if you need more questions answered and such...good luck with those apps!

it depends which school you're aiming for. architecture schools usually place a high priority in portfolios but if you're applying to a good school with competitive admissions, it's always better to retake it again. i think it wouldn't hurt to retake it again since there is so much competition out there. good luck!
