Ted, UrbanLab has a few commisions in and around the city right now, including some interesting sounding prefab stuff (a fetish of mine), so keep your eyes open.
Am I the only one who enjoyed UrbanLab's Ford Calumet entry a LOT more than StudioGang's?
mm-urban labs calumet was just packed 'green one-liners' and didnt know what it was doing and i thought quit embarishing. i blame the final submission 'isms' in the collaborative partner of gensler who greened the scheme. the original concept which UL did sans gensler was much better and stronger as an idea. when i have seen martin present the project, its as if he doesnt even know what it was about nor has little understanding of the sustainble things less the round diagram which i am certian he authored. personally i liked the simplicity of SGs; the single story makes sense on this site from an inside outside prespective and could meet the budget. unfortunately thats not going to happen.
emergentc - do not see the relation to denari at all, but good call on the viennese connection. tom was a project architect at coop himmelb(l)au for several years and maintains a close professional relationship with them.
You can think the criteria should be whatever you want it to be. but then go post it in a different thread.. i wanted to know whos under 40 and going to be great and isnt already being touted as great.. this means people still in school, teaching, just out of school, whatever.. but not already getting their fame.. so.. no jeanie gang, no emergent.. i know those people. you can find out about them in magazines. i want to know people i cant find out about b3wcause they havent done that much. of course they most likeley wont end up being frak gehry. but its what i was curious.. so please. no more "the criteria is wrong. it should be....." comments because.. there is no right.. just want i was interested in.
kind of predictable, no?... I always find it funny when architects try to be graphic designers or "artists" because they always end up just copying whatevers "hot" at the time....
MOO is not a bunch of architects parading as grapic designers -
just a tip - you should look a little closer before you send your resume - these are the detail oriented things that everyone is going to be looking for.
i was refering to other architects pretending they are artists because they exhibit a drawing or something.. not moo.
anyhow. why are you pimping for them... seems kinda goofy whenever someone does what youre doing.. creating "buzzzzz" about someone like a PR marketer does..
let their work do that. not silly posts on the internet..
i second Min Cho. Fantastic designer...he was good from day 1 out of columbia...i can speak from experience that during the early 90s, no one (anywhere in the world) put pantone on mylar faster than he did.
I also agree on Meredith/Sample. He is truly the best teacher at Harvard.
But I must object to Studio Luz! they interest me neither formally, nor spatially, nor conceptually,....
GENETIC CODE (4*n) is a project promoted by an international group of young architects (Enrico Nieri Studio (I), Centola Associati (I), SMAQ (D), S'A Arquitectos (P)) whose aim is to constitute a text found on the exchanging and indexing of terms, words, concepts regarding reserches managed in architecture by young architects both at national and international level.
It's a "theoretical and synthetic data base" of terms, which is able to become a complex and multidirectional system of ideas that can show directions or suggest new visions; a platform in the respect of ideas' freedom.
It's not a theoretical text, not even an explicative document of concepts, but it's a list, a sequence of words, a piece of the uncodified helix of architecture's DNA, given to be interpreted, manipulated or made partially operative.
Besides this first group, we'll select other young studios at national and international level, that will be able to send their sequence to take part in the establishment of the text; after that, the document will be spread and published on international and national magazines, web sites as well at events and international exhibitions.

We welcome the opportunity to work with you and promise a worthwhile and professional experience when doing business with Guy M. Land Designer Incorporated."
Many exciting young firms listed here. No wrong answers possible given nature of the forum....but Studio Gang? Based on what? I'd nominate them for "Best Spin Doctor". If you're looking at the midwest, I'd say the Milwaukee firms of Johnson/Schmaling and La Dallman have a brighter potential for real projects.
I like LTL and really like O'Donnell Tuomey. But I'd like to add RCR
Aranda Pigem Vilalta to the list....partners may have recently eclipsed 40, but they're close.
-Michel Rojkind[MEXICO]

hansey better @ studio luz and tiffany lin are both getting more press and make cornell proud
I think the criteria should be under 40 and have actually built something.
sorry, but anyone can speculate...
I'll second LTL, they're building some interesting stuff...
