New LCD Soundsystem is pretty rad
Besnard Lakes are dope as well
Still deciding on the new Modest Mouse album
Deerhunter is good
Perpetually waiting for the next Radiohead album
Recently I discovered a Swedish band called Snook. I both despise and love their song Mister Cool. I don't know what their singing about, but I'm pretty sure if I knew Swedish I'd be laughing.
I spent part of the day today jammin out to Basement Jaxx.
My favorite foreign band/group in the whole world is H.O.T.
When I drove a couple hours to San Antonio last weekend it was Smashing Pumpkins all the way baby!
I love every single song from the tv show House.
I like a bit of everything, but I really don't listen to the radio and I'm not hip enough to listen to indie. Yes that's right, I'm in Austin and don't like the local music!!! I'll go to Amazon or Download.com and spend a couple hours listening to the free music. There's a lot of junk, but a lot of gems too.
The Gossip (if you like sleater-kinney, and I'm a sucker for a 3 piece)
M. Ward
Mose Allison (if you're tired and uninspired)
Centro-matic (if you like Wilco)
Fernando (beatlesy)
Wilco's latest, Sky Blue Sky
My band is touring the UK with Bloc Party next month. However, I quit a few months ago to make time to apply to architecture school! Hilarious. :)
Anyway, Fro and pomotrash, any studio that's blasting dub is okay by me. Have you guys heard the Jah Stitch re-issue on blood+fire? Tubby's at the controls. So good.
Other good work music-- The Clientele, Boyracer, The Radio Dept, Seefeel, and when feeling more "precise", Morton Feldman.
I've been listening to Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home. It has this great, raucous sound to it -- as if Dylan were fronting a half-inebriated bar band.
For his urban poetry over some quirky, occasionally very catchy tunes, and for being fresh fresh London, probably:
Jamie T (back in the game)
For thumping cheap and sexy beats, so good it feels
sleazy, because baby, that is how it is:
MSTRKRFT (The Looks)
For something totally other which I first found on here,
as if fresh from the land of garden fairies and
diamonds on trees, birds, bees: jewel-like and
fascinating:
Joanna Newsom
One track to go get, if you go get any, is the MSTRKRFT
remix of Monster Hospital by Metric.
I am just informed that the lead singer of Metric
also, like, did it with Broken Social Scene.
Cool.
i've been listening to them a lot now. have you ever seen them live? so good. there's a great recording on [url=http://www.samurai.fm/home/]samurai.fm[url] do a search for modeselektor. they also have great recordings of ellen allien, justus keonhcke, luciano, peter grummch, etc.
The Knife - YAY!!!!!! They rock my young-adult life.
The Ditty Bops - These girls are badasses. They recently biked their entire last tour. Yes, the biked to each show from New York City to Portland, Orgeon.
miss_j, we are called mahogany. I left just before applications were due for schools. The rest of the band is really looking forward to touring though. Personally, I don't think my liver could handle it. :)
Rabbits, I see we have similar tastes, I love Isolee.
Morr Music as a label is an incredible place to start for anyone interested in electronic music.
Any Jazzanova fans? They are one of the most incredible acts I have heard. If you are a Jazzanova fan, you should really listen to Owusu and Hannibal's new album "Living with...". I think it is the best album I have purchased in years.
tokyodrifter - ha...i guess your liver thanks you for your decision...but gessh! i can imagine how huge the crowds would be at bloc party. i checked out your band's site, too! nice sound! it seems you guys played at some good venues in NYC, too. ahhhh i applaud you for quitting to finish your applications. will you re-join the band when they come back or are you out for good?
jasoncross,
THE BOOKS!!! I love them. Have you checked them out live? They use an incredible video/picture show behind them as they play. They mentioned something about releasing it on DVD at some point.
i wanna talk about music
Yeah thats a good Broken Social Scene album-gets some playtime in my office. Seems cheesy, but 5 years ago Moby's Play was a great album to work to.

I don't know if anyone else into minimal techno or house from German labels right now, but these are some good names to be aware of:
The Field- shoegazer techno
Audion- never get tired of listening to the Suckfish album
DJ Koze- Cosi Comes Around one of the best albums of 2006
Modeselektor- HELLO MOM! my favorite album from 2006, they just keep getting better
others; Luciano, Metope, Ada, My My, Rework, Sten, Roman Flugel, Hug&Pep/John & Jesper Dalhback, Lawrence, Superpitcher, and Gui Borato.
My Bloody Valentine - Best shoegazers
The Knife - Fun and at the same time disturbing
The Gossip (if you like sleater-kinney, and I'm a sucker for a 3 piece)
M. Ward
Mose Allison (if you're tired and uninspired)
Centro-matic (if you like Wilco)
Fernando (beatlesy)
Wilco's latest, Sky Blue Sky
My studio list of the week:
Beastie Boys -Pauls Boutique -Classic to get truckin on your CAD
Peter Bjorn & John -Writer's Block- Happy Clappy Songs to listen when the man gets you down
Subtle-(don't know the title)- When things need to be redesigned
Radiohead- Amnesiac- my substitute for drugs
Air -Moon Safari- to daydream to
I'm addicted to The Knife as well, the best, strangest, most original music to come out of nowhere in a long time.
I'm looking forward to the new release by Battles this spring. Other fascinating things I've discovered this year: Svarte Greiner, Om, Hisato Higuchi.
Battles' new video is also very nice, makes me think of Dan Graham:
Atlas

well if he was fronting "the band" he was fronting a half inebriated bar band.
moratto - thanks for the beastie boy reminder. and vado--WOW. lawrence sounds a bit sauced up on that intro.
Forgot about another three piece...mmmenonmena.
Happy St. Patty's Day everybody---get ta pinchin'!
