Yeah, I saw that on the Discovery Channel - Don't get too excited
though -
They'll just build it in the form of a standard U.S. subdivision. probably gonna look like a conglomeration of Williamsburg, Calif. Spanish style, 5over4&a door & some john Weiland/Beazer looking mess.
they're definitely building it, and there are at least two others that are very similar in intent and size that are also getting built. it'll basically be a floating retirement home and seasonal retreat for upper middle class folk. http://www.freedomship.com/
anyway, as to the original question.. given my affinity for the ocean and my disdain for the current administration, i'd move out there in a heartbeat if i wasn't a dead broke student. :)
i am actually fond of the idea of having a condomininium that floats around the world on an annual basis. nonetheless, the design needs some work. i love it when mba's try to put things together. now if we could just get per corel to lend his 3d honeycomb technique, this ship might be hot enough to melt icebergs.
also, to really appreciate the surreal majesty of this idea, you have to look at the faq page.
1. Misperception: The primary focus of the project is to build a big ship.
2. Misperception: The project is an attempt to create a new country.
3. Misperception: The ship is a tax dodge.
4. Misperception: Freedom Ship should be built in a shipyard.
5. Misperception: The aircraft flight deck can accept 747 aircraft.
"Freedom Ship is essentially a type of deed restricted community. FS is not a sovereign country, nor is it an incorporated city with representative government. The ship itself will be owned by the Freedom Ship Corporation, just as the streets and common areas of many deed restricted communities are owned by the developer. As such, the developer would have final and irrevocable say over all aspects of how the community works, runs, and operates."
look, i'm not a fan of the current admin by any means, but come on. things get a little tough and you run? if you want to leave for other reasons, i respect that, but to leave because you don't like the bushies and their policies is just plain childish.
for the record, i wasn't citing bush and his administration as a reason to leave. i could think of many reasons to try a foreign experience, and besides, although the idea of hopping on boat appeals to me, i am still skeptical enough of this particular project that i don't yet consider it much more that escapist fantasy.
Mysteriman the vessel are not a ship or a boat it's a Eh or something like that --- acturly the origine are Keltic ; the type of inland float are still mastered by a few specialists , when _they saw the Viking sort of boats, that carried Starboard , Port aft and bow keel up and down, they for once saw a revolution in innovative thinking , ----- their own boats ,the Walish ones , was as the drawing show, just round and round, nomatter how much effort in rowing, you just stayed the same place and cooperating as you know ,was out of the question. So the Viking boats was the great trend and even the horns on the helmets -- those to attract the lightning, was copied. Acturly it is welsh not Vikings that had helmets with horns.
There's that one dude in NYC w/ the horns & the underwear & the guitar, Hey Waittaminute!! Hey, you tricked me into thinkin' that! Krap-O. Dang - Friday might & I'ma bloggin'? I suck.
This thing is NOT going to be built....just read the "News" section of the freedomship.com website.....poorly written and blames the current setback on "hundreds of financial con artists. " looks very shady.
Also...just for kicks, I called the phone number of the corporate offices...got the voice mailbox of the CEO! It's going to be hard getting the multi-billions of financing needed for this project when the CEO is answering phones all day.
freedom ship
anybody else so depressed with america that they are hoping this thing gets built so that they can permanently sail away?

Sound good to you? Pure corporate rule...
Why use the name Freedom. Freedom ship, Freedom Towers.
With that name it's doomed and will probably end up like this escape to freedom.
It's actually not a ship, iI think it's gonna be one huge barge.
