Rhino as modeling software, 3ds Max as renderer?

nappy

Would I be ok If I use Rhino to model while using max SOLELY to render? Am I missing out much if I do not know how to model in 3ds max? Can Rhino compensate for this?

I dont model much in 3ds, I use rhino almost exclusivly, sometimes autocad when I know I can do it faster there (mostly 2d stuff)

I also do line renders in Illustrator from Rhino which is really sweet...

As I understand it, unless you're using a specialized plug-in, conversion from Rhino nurbs to 3ds max splines will be via a .dwg file, which has serious limitations. I think there are more specialized ways of converting/other products for doing so, but I'm not too familiar with them.

use rhino for all modeling, 3ds max for rendering. you can even render line elements drawn in rhino. just work in layers in rhino and export everything from as dxf, even lines. also, export curved objects separately so you can optimize their mesh density.

modeling in 3ds max seems clumsy & imprecise compared to rhino. rhino modeling gives you much more freedom.

Thanks for all the responses guys...

one more question..when i import a rhino file into 3ds max and then take that 3ds max file and put it back into rhino...it is no longer in nurbs format. Any way to get around this?
