what is the most interesting and exciting model shop you've been to (or heard of) in nyc? ideally within an architecture firm but i'm interested to hear about outstanding professional model building shops too . . .
i'm teaching a summer architecture course for nyc high school students and would like to take them somewhere extremely fantastic to inspire their model-making skills. . .
i have seen the model shops at SOM and Bob Stern...inspiring...maybe not...but interesting since we do not have one.
also...during WTC memorial competition, i think the winners were given a list of model makers they could use...might call LMDC and see if you can get the list...
3d modelling - you can check out d-box, iomedia, kd lab, etc.
physical modelling - Kennedy is probably the best known and most respected out there. on top of that, most of the "design" offices have their own in-house model shop. Polshek actually has a pretty good shop. Eisenman used to have all the german interns build huge study models all summer long...
meier still runs a pretty tight little model shop as well...though it isn't always busy.
great nyc model shops?
