Does needing financial aid hurt your chances?

FluffPuff

At the undergraduate level, the prestigious schools like Harvard, Princeton and Yale consider themselves to be need-blind. Is this also true for their architecture schools?

Or would they favor a student who doesn't need aid over a comparably qualified student who needs it. I'm particularly worried about Yale, which has comparably fewer resources for aid than its peers. As long as you don't put how much you'll need their money in your personal statement you should be fine....the financial aid process starts after the admissions decisions are made, not during.

At Yale the yes/no decisions are made by the admissions committee made up of faculty members and current students who have no info about your financial status, the tax forms go to the financial aid office.

You also have to remember that students who take out financial aid actually pay more to the university than those who don't because of interest. The architecture school still gets it's money  up front regardless if you are writing the check or a loan provider.
