seconds on the headlands -
not that (these days) one would get all excited about david ireland, mark mack, and the interim office, but....
pretty amazing space, very low-key, and in some ways brought out the best in all the participants, given the low budgets. funny, in some ways this place reminds me of dia (chelsea).

Go see the Circle Gallery by Wright off of Union Square, might go by a different name now, but a fantastic, well detailed, small space. Great light.
Also check out the DeYoung Museum by H&DeM in Golden Gate Park. Still under construction, but I heard you can see alot.
Last but not least, check out the Dominus Winery by H&DeM. Tight, tight building, exceptionally detailed for U.S. construction. There is a private tour for architects on the first Wed. of every month, but you need to reserve a spot a couple of weeks in advance. Give them a call and inquire, they will play like there is no tour, but do give one to people in the know......

ditto on the DeYoung - it's really taking shape. Morphosis' courthouse is outta the ground as well. there's some great Foster projects at Stanford, not to mention some quality landscape design. the old school is well represented in and around UC Berkeley (Julia Morgan, Wurster, etc). Scogin has a bldg there now as well. by and large, we're still cloaked in Victorianism 'round here, but the city sprouting up around SBC Park & China Basin offers an interesting counterpoint. Go urinate on Stern's GAP bldg.
The ferry bldg has been reclaimed, and offers some good eats as well.

Morphosis' Federal building is under construction at Mission and (I think it's) 8th street. Looks pretty cool so far...

There are several book on walking architecture tours of Berkeley, San Francisco, etc.

The Marin Civic Center and the Circle Gallery off of Union Square are considered by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Eikler home development in Palo Alto.

Engineering wise, the SF City Hall and Transamerica Pyramid use teflon bearings.
