Tablet PC?

formandpurpose

Anyone own a Tablet PC? I'm considering purchasing one after reading up on them online, yet still haven't played with one... Any advice? Has it improved your workflow, organization, etc.? (Granted if you weren't organized before it probably won't help you now, but for the sake of the argument...) ANY SUGGESTIONS, PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...

Hey BOTS,
Have you actually used one? Like I said, I've done some research on the internet, but wanted to hear from architects/architecture students specifically...

Yeah, had a short trial. I think the operating system interphase needs more work. I think a good laptop is preferable for the moment as the software isn't developed enough.

I considered one and chose to pass. Tablets are two or three generations from a product thats "right". Improving workflow & organization would be on par with getting a laptop & in some instances a laptop might be better. Some of the cheaper models w/ swivel monitor are not engineered too well and I was afraid of breakage with continued use. Although hardware technology makes tablets possible its the software that leaves much to be desired. Tablets that I have used had XP installed and that was a big disappointment. XP is for desktop computers and operation proved awkward. Using the stylus was a pain - sometimes it would create an selection rectangle instead of dragging the intended object - not a big deal but after a while it was a PITA. Otherwise it was just like using a laptop. I chose to get a good symbian phone (P910) and & desktop computer (since they are much cheaper than laptops/tablets.) Some limitations & some advantages (over tablets) to this combo but it works quite well for me.

well said Zepplin100. Try a Wacom tablet as a peripheral to your desktop setup. The results are superior for graphic and program control. No portability though.

we use both Tablet PC's and Wacom Cintiqu's- Was the recipient of a Graham Grant to study architectural typologies/method within a tablet interface.

they are invlauable as an alternative design tool.

but then, anything can be if one uses it creatively.
