Trying to fix my fiancee's computer. I've used Noadware to identify two registry DSO Exploit programs.....one hijacked the homepage and the other hijacks the actual desktop so there are pop ups all the time.
Are there any good FREE programs to remove DSO Exploits?
thanks
I'm not sure exactly what DSO exploits classify as but some good programs for removing spyware adware type things are Adaware, Spybot, and Pandascan. Not sure if that helps.
A few months back the computers at the place I worked IT for were hit by hijacks and such. Apparently the files were installed insidiously on certain amazon.com and yahoo.com servers, so anyone who's page view came from that server had the install initialized against their will.
To fix it, download a program called "HijackThis!," spybot, and AdAware. Run HijackThis!, delete all of the offending entries, then IMMEDIATELY restart your computer in SafeMode. While in safemode, run BOTH spybot then AdAware (not concurrently).
What tends to happen is that the DSO exploit is generated by a hidden DLL which creates a new DLL with a bogus name (kljds.dll, for example). That bogus DLL then "hijacks" your browser each time you restart explorer, which is why you need to IMMEDIATELY go to safemode after running hijack this, OR run HijackThis immediately after everything else while still in safemode. Whipe out both the created instances AND the DLLs which create it before it has a chance to reproduce.
There is a glitch in spybot that says that a DSO Exploit has been detected. But it is a glitch and your computer is clean. This is what I've been told. However, if you detected the DSO Exploit with something else then I can't help you.

i've used Spybot twice on this, and it won't fix it for some reason, although it identifies it. I'll try the otherst
Don't look at so much porn.
