Pacific and Montgomery is a good place to start. Vitra, Artemide and Kartell are there, not to mention William Stout books! Another place I'd check out is Hayes Valley. There are a few stores on Hayes street between Van Ness and Laguna that peddle some choice merchandise. My Favorite ones are Friends and Propellor. IF you're feeling particularly adventurous you could head down to LIMN on 4th and Townsend. All three of these locations are pretty far apart, so cab/bus it.
Cool design and furniture shops in San Francisco?
Will have two days in SF... what are some cool furniture + design shops to hit?

Den on Valencia has a mixture of vintage modern and curent, local designers selling on consignment. Good to see what's happening in town.
