Does anyone have information on Herzog & De Meuron's Stone House, one of their early works, finished in 1988 and located in Tavole , Italy.
I would be especially interested in photos of the interior, sections, or photos taken from the distance. I only found images of the exterior (close ups) and plans.
I need to study the house in detail for a project, and i'm slowly drowning into panique, because i only found very little information on it...
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help me with some links... or anything at all.
Thanks for the post. I saw an issue of El Croquis on H&DM but there was nothing there about this house.
On the other hand, my city does not have a "good architecture library" so no luck here... Still hoping to find something on the internet... Anyone?
I have only seen this building documented by exterior shots - which I guess makes it all the more intriguing. I have an AV Monograph on them at home, which has this building, but even then, I dont think there is even a floorplan... check it out if you can. Or switch to another building...
sounds good. thanks a lot.
I've heard that there could be something on this building in "Herzog & De Meuron - Complete works - vol. 1". I don't have the book, and don't think i can find it in the city. I wonder if it's worth a trip to Munich to search for it. Do you know what kind of info are they presenting there...?
i looked through my copy of h&dm vol.1 and it is probably something that you want to try and get ahold of. it has interiors, designs sketches, early models, details (drawings and photos) and tons of exterior photos.
send me your email. i can't promise i can get to it until monday night or tuesday night eastern u.s. time, but maybe i can scan those pages in to pdf to you.
there's also an A+U on H+deM which is a lot cheaper and probably more available than the el croquis. it has photos, plans and sections of the house in question
i'm not sure the private message got to you. i think for one reason or another it was returned.
i was writing how grateful i would be for those scans, because i can't really switch houses on the project, and that it's no hurry, i need to be ready in a week - 10 days....

If you want to read a good interpretation of the house, check out Kurt W. Forster's "Pieces for Four and More Hands," in: Herzog & de Meuron, Natural History. You will find a few hand drawings too.
"hedgehog and da moron produce questionable architecture" I heard a professor once say. How many projects did this professor build himself? One. He called it a house, I call it a wall.....
hey barbaric, now you gotta e-mail me and tell me who the prof is (gossip, gossip), by the way, columbia is looking oh so promising again (damn, i'm so wishy-washy!)
signum- I don't expect a professor to teach and build and lecture and win competitons..........after all, contrary to belief, all professors ARE human......
what I don't expect/tolerate is the sarcasm involved, the kind that makes fun of a name (H+dM), or of appearance (such and such big name architect is fat/ugly/smelly/etc....)
It's comments like :"where are the flies?", "huh?", "where are the flies cos this model looks like sh*t" -most famous cornell horror story
or another comment "do you ice skate?", "huh?", "cos in ice skating there is a term, 'thin ice', and you're on it buddy and it's not good"........
that's the last thing someone needs to hear after pulling an all-nighter. These one-two punchlines happen all the time, in every architecture school I bet. You can criticize the work in constructive ways, why resort to insulting students?
actually signum...most of the profs i had in 5th year,
especially, had lots of time to design...they had to keep office
hours pretty much every day...and most studio profs really
had only one or two courses to teach...ie a third year studio
and some fifth year students. the profs i had would sit in
their offices, available for students, drawing and designing
or reading. also when these profs are tenured
they teach the class year after year so they can just recycle old
projects every three or four years.
plus..re: competitions is there any cheaper labor than your
own students?

Try El Croquis they have everything on H&M
plus any good architecture library should have info and pics on that project.

airie, swamprat is correct. it is in el croquis. 2 exterior shots only with plans, elevations, sections, and a detail. #60 from 1993. i
sounds good. thanks a lot.

airie, pretty sure that Vol.1 is out of print, and is very desirable.

Well come on....how is a prof supposed to have time to build and studay/learn/teach?

Fair enough barbaric, I getcha, in fact I think we probably, basically agree. I don't like how some profs behave either...

also...they get the summers "off"...
Well I guess my school is a little different then lars!
The statement wasn't "where are the flies" it was, "flies like to land on other things too". Stated with a lisp by a still active Prof.
