an error has occured thus crashing acad so i'm using the autosave file to get back to work. I've changed the extension of the file to dwg from $ve and tried to open it but when i do this message pops up,
'Cannot find the specified drawing file Please Verify that the file exists'
What step(s) am i missing?
From what I understand changing the extension is suppose to do it except it doesn't so how do i make an autosave file into an autocad file when simply changing the extension doesnt seem to do it?
change the name of the file to something proper...not like '$$$autosave.dwg'
there must also be a *.bk1 file somewhere - thats also a backup file..run a search on the comp for *.bk* files, and try open the most recent one, after renaming it to *.dwg

Thanks.
have you tried using the recover drawing feature inside ACAD?
Try beginning with a new file then Insert>Block>Browse>AutoSave.dwg....then save as the intended file.
If that doesnt work nothing will.
Or "Alt+F4" to solve your problem...easy
change the name of the file to something proper...not like '$$$autosave.dwg'

My autosaves all end in sv$ - so try searching for them? I also find that you have to turn "search for hidden files" on sometimes.
good luck!
