Harvard Design School Guide to Shopping (pub. in 2002 I think so a bit out dated) has some great commentary including stuff on malls, Wal-mart etc. Great "propoganda" coffee table book.
i actually wrote a sociology paper on wal-mart and found the best thing to do is just to go interview a store manager. it's amazing how cut-throat they operate. extremely eye-opening especially to talk to someone that's very much a believer in the wal-mart "system"

Wal-Mart data
I was wondering if any one knows of any good sources on wal-mart data, or anyother "big box" corporation.
Also, any good books or sources on adaptive reuse?
