M.Arch Schools and Scholarships

Shellaby

I'm looking at applying to 3-year M.Arch programs, and I'm sorry to say this, but money will matter a lot and factor in strongly. In people's experiences, which programs offered significant scholarships? I have a B.A. in art history and art from a good college, a good gpa, and a good gre score. I'd link to my portfolio, except I currently don't have my work online. Regardless, the strongest works in my portfolio are portraits, mostly in charcoal or pencil.

USC is making a big effort to build their architectural graduate programs (MArch, Historic Preservation, and Building Science), and seem to be offering people quite a good amount lately. It's usually in 'teaching assistanceships' here though. Kind of like work study, only not based on the hours you work. They give you something like 3/4 of the tuition, and you TA for undergraduate structures, drawing, or history classes.

Wow, thanks. On the one had, that's on the west coast, and I'd like to be nearer my family in the east. On the positive side, that's good to hear and I'll look further into USC's M.Arch program.

Any other schools? Thanks folks!

And also, another question to attach to my note...but if anyone is reading and knows, this it would help... I come from NJ (though currently living in Boston) and NJIT has a fairly affordable M.Arch program for NJ residents. How is the school? How is it viewed in the profession?

Try state schools.

UC Berkeley, UCLA, Arizona, etc

Depending on your financial situation you may get different types of aid from a variety of schools. Rice University gives out quite a bit of scholarships and aid.

Sean!

i dont know much about the Graduate program but the undergraduate program seems diverse in its students and the work they produce. There’s also alot of emphasis placed on the computer as a means of designing-presenting. There facilities and studio spaces are some of the nicest I’ve seen, it's worth visiting the school.... Good Luck

But doesn't out-of-state tuition cost almost as much as private schools? Especially the University of California system, as I imagine...?
