Intro to Architecture summer at Columbia?

I am considering a transition to architecture from a totally unrelated field, and am planning on enrolling in Columbia's "Intro to Architecture" summer session (5-6 weeks) to feel it out.
Does anyone have first-hand experience with the program? What did you think? What did you learn? What did you do afterwards? How competitive was the application process?
Also, the application websites mentions "optional portfolio"--I can only think of some photographs to include (which are of the old-fashioned, non-digital, film format): how do I go about putting it together?

Any info about your own (or someone you know) experience with this program would be quite welcome.
