I am a transfer architecture student just graduated this year and applying grad school right now.
During the application process I found most of the schools require the applicants submit transcripts from all the institues they have attend. The thing is I got a really good transcripts in the school where I transfered in (with GPA about 3.7), but the grades of the school where I transfered from got totally ruined by the last semester. Since I got the transfer admission from a top architecture school, I didn't really pay attention to the school stuff in the rest part of the term. So three of my classes end up with "F" "D+" and "C+" (But the GPA still keep above 3.0).
Right now I am really worry about these three grades might hurt my chance if I apply those really selective top schools like GSD, Yale, Upenn, and columbia. I heard those IVY schools would never accept students who got grades like that, is that true?
Do grad school really look at the GPA from the old school where I transfered from or they mostly pay attention to the grades from where I received my degree?
I know portfolio is the most crucial material for grad school application, but the grades issue just keeping bother me all days recently. Hope anyone can clear up my worries and give any suggestions. Thank you!
hey, don't worry about it. I applied last year with a sub 3.0 and got into two of the schools you have mentioned. I did not get into GSD. (GSD put me into the M.ARCH I AP mix for some reason) I did not apply to Yale. I was nervous when I was applying too. There is no need to stress over it at all. Unless the F,D,C's were from design studio classes. Good Luck!

If everything else is in order, like the essay, letters, GRE, portfolio. It really doesnt matter. Dont even mention it.
portoflio, letters of rec, and essay are the most important things, in that order
