I am in a Design Department that doesn't have the money to get any programs better than an Autocad agreement with Autodesk and ArchiCAD. I recieved a educational copy of 3d Studio Max from a friend in Arch. school and I am trying to learn it from the basics. Can anyone refer me to some good books that will guide me to understanding how to model in 3d. I realize there is a lot one can use with 3DS Max; however, if I could be guided to the basics, I would appreciate it. The version I have is 3d Studio Max 5. Thanks
I would recommend the tutorials in your install disk. Click on help-->tutorials. Just follow that and you will handle it soon. If it doesn't show up, download from 3d max website

But the ture learning only begins when you handle some basic skills and start a real project of your own.
