Steep Sloped Roof & Building Dimensions-- Help!

StudentOfLife

Hi all,

I'm looking to build a rectangular dwelling with a vaulted ceiling. I love the look of 14:12 or even 16:12 roofs but with that, comes a very high, vaulted ceiling. Are there any tips or tricks to get the ceiling height down without the exterior walls looking short compared to the roofline? Is there a rule of thumb I should follow? With a 16:12 roof, the vaulted ceiling would be 30'+ feet high-- do you think that's too tall? Seems excessive.

Thanks!

Sorry, just updated it. I wasn't sure if there were any tips or tricks to reducing the height of a vaulted ceiling with a 14:12 or even 16:12 roof. I don't want the exterior walls to look short compared to the roofline.
