I want to ask the following question because I am am too lazy to do my own research and would rather have the answer crowsourced from anonymous wankers online:
Are you aware of any type of film that improves the soundproofing of windows, when taped to the pane that is facing indoors? I am not seeking the typical PVB that is sandwiched between panes in laminated glass, but rather a product that can be bought and DIY fitted from indoors to improve soundproofing against external nuisance (e.g. traffic noise).
I am looking ideally for a product that performs well in all frequencies and is transparent / translucent. One option that came up is Vynil. I also found other film types used for thermal insulation or UV protection.
It is really a home improvement type of question, but I thought I might just ask since I am a regular on here ;).
Our acoustician always pushes us towards transparent panels when we bring this question up. He claims that any thin film applied over a window will have negligible affect to acoustical performance. Good luck. http://www.deamp.com/https://www.rpgacoustic.com/cl...
Not sure on your performance standard...but my suggestion is to look into a laminate in the IGU. Recipes of glass thickness + laminate affect sound transmission. Check in with the glass mfrs to see their test data on sound performance. It's interesting how the various sandwiches have effect on STC & OTC
