Working remotely / Freelance

maya0401

Hi, I'm wondering how people manage to be a freelancer in the architectural field. I'm looking to venture into this.

What is your main source of work? referals? any webpage?

I know all the work will be either as a draftsman in autocad, revit, etc but I'm ok with this and I'm super interested!

Thanks.

I freelanced for a few years and 90% of the freelance work came from former employers who knew they could rely on me because I had worked for them before as an employee.  The rest of the work came from networking.  The workload was enough that I never had to publicly advertise.

The most successful freelancers in my area have a specialty or two like specification writing, interior finishes, furniture/equipment, historic building research, etc.  Things that many architects aren't comfortable with, or not interested in, and are happy to subcontract out to someone.
