My brother gave me a opinel no. 6 as a groomsman gift awhile ago. Since then I've noticed a bunch of guys in the office always a small knife on them. My opinel doesn't really seem durable enough for everyday use, so i'm looking for recommendations.
Keep in mind i'm an architect, so price is important.
I found this knife sitting on a rock after run-off season down by the river, very light and sturdy, small enough for your pocket, and it has a hanging clip.

before that I had a leatherman multitool, until the knife broke...very useful gear.....and I had leatherman micra taken at the airport when I forgot to take out of my pants pocket at home.
My knife maker friend is trying to get out of the luxury woodworking business. He's sick to death of neurotic, overly demanding, overly wealthy, over-entitled clients and their architects, decorators, and contractors.
I don't get why the need to carry knives at all times... seems odd. More useful than a firearm, and certainly not as idiotic, but still seems odd. The only knife I have is a fixed blade Bear Grylls Gerber with paracord handle. I only use it for hiking and camping and like it because the sheath allows upside down, or even 45d, mounting.
Think I'm going to get one of the CRKT $30ish knives.
Are a lot of people carrying fixed blades?

I carry a fixed blade (Morakniv companion or other puukko type) when I am mushroom hunting, or doing something that requires regular deployment. Fixed blade for all my game knives as well. It gets tiring opening and closing blades all the time. I've actually had blisters from closing linerlocks while hunting mushrooms. I really won't even carry a locking knife unless it's a back lock after having that happen.
Knife of an Architect
Any one here interested in knives?

Benchmade everyday carry knives are great and will last a lifetime or a Spyderco is pretty nice
I carry a Case Sodbuster Jr. on a daily basis.
If we're talking a fixed blade, the architect's knife of choice should absolutely be Tapio Wirkkala's Puukko.

very nice
Cricket makes some great knives. Every time I've broken or bent a clip or tab on the handle of mine, they mail a part, no questions asked.
There should probably be a chefs kinfe thread too. I geek out on my Togiharu Cobalt Damascus chefs knife.
CRKT (columbia river knife & tool) has great products, as does Benchmade...might look at The James Brand too
looking at a CRKT Drifter now
Right proto thanks for the correction... CRKT.
mine is like 2" blade, it's at least 6 years old now.
archanon, i call them cricket too (but hard to search for that tho)
Rambo First Blood - accept no substitutes
Ontario knife company makes some nice ones
Good quality for reasonable price.
X-ACTO!
OLFA
Excel. Made in USA.
ACR x Gibson
those are both really nice!

Sound familiar ... ?

Hey, I've got like 5 or so of those Husky ones, used to hand them out like christmas day to employees who'd always lose them.

I’ve always wanted to make knives. For a while I was watching tons of YouTube vids of people making knives. Very satisfying to watch for some reason.

“No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.” Sadig Kahn
