is it possible to create a staircase as the main focus of the design considering the fact that they are placed outdoors and that they are meant for the first floor residence? if so can u recommend any references of such ideas being used.
Most of the Make it Right houses have a stairway as main focal/design point due to the FEMA height requirements in the 9th ward. Good precedent to look at and expand upon.
Lots of examples in the Gulf Coast States with their "raised gulf coast cottages" and on the eastern shore of Maryland and Virginia and the coast of North and South Carolina. Those areas were called the "low country" and "tidewater" for a reason.

See Heatherwick's Hudson Yard project.
Apologies, skimped through your post. Thought you were asking for commercial architecture.

Lots of great exterior apartment stairs in Montreal that, at least to me, are the most prominent and beautiful features of the buildings.
