Looking for some advice! I have a bachelors in architecture and post graduate program certificate in sustainability. I've been stuck as a CAD monkey for years and feel like it's time to change that! I'm looking into pursuing a joint masters degree in environmental management and a green MBA (preferably in Europe, with a better quality of life than the US) trying to score a sustainability specialists title job or something similar. Perhaps become a university professor by pursuing a PhD!
You've got any advice or have the same experience? Would greatly appreciate your help :)
Had the same education as you when I started out. There are LEED consultant companies, have you thought of applying with any of them? Are you a LEED AP? If you haven't quit yet, can you get your firm to pay for those classes? Have you tried to apply to another firm that focuses on sustainability? There are a lot of architecture grads who have moved directly over and have gotten jobs at solar companies. Maybe that would be of interest to you? Also, there are sustainability/LEED associate roles within the construction companies. Have you thought of working for them? Arup, Gensler, SOM all have sustainability experts on staff, have you exhausted all those avenues? Start to leverage your LinkedIn networks to see if you can find people in companies that alumni work at who you can either call up on the phone or have a coffee with. Then ask them if they know of any other positions that might be opening in their firm or in a competitors firm. Generally people in one role/title know people with a similar role and title in another company and can connect with you those people. Also, I would try the engineering companies and cities who also have similar position openings.
